MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

A native of Asbury Park on the Jersey Shore, Kasey Sanders  has been practicing martial arts for over 4 decades in many traditional and eclectic arts.

He has practiced martial arts since the age of 7 and is an expert in various disciplines both traditional and eclectic styles and applications. Capoeira has been his passion since the early 90's as influenced by the movie "Only the Strong" and the first instructional videos from Mestre Amen Santos and Mestre Nelson Reis

​

He has vast experience in both Capoeira Angola and Regional and is Founder of the Afro Brazilian Martial Arts and Fitness or New Jersey which is the first group to promote and teach Capoeira in Monmouth and Ocean County.

Kasey has hosted a multitude of self defense workshops, cultural presentations and mentoring to many social work, outreach and assistance programs, local community, public and private education facilities, as well as many colleges and universities on the Jersey Shore as well as Abroad in Spain and Brazil

​

His martial arts backgrounds are in Traditional Karate, Tae Kwon Do,  Traditional Boxing, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Filipino Martial Arts, Wing Chun Kung Fu, studies of Jun Fan/JKD, Indonesian Silat, Judo, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Aikido, Combat Shoot Wrestling, Capoeira and various interests in "What Works Best" for all body types.

The group "Capoeira Sol Nascente USA" was founded in 2002 under the supervision of Mestre Romeu, the late Mestrando Mikim and Contramestre Didi (Joao Martins Leite) who was the first to teach Kasey the art of "becoming Brazilian". He speaks fluent Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish plus interest in many languages including French, Italian, German, Tagalog, Thai, and any forms of communication. He is an accomplished percussionist, pianist, singer/songwriter, BMI recording artist, gardener, studier of anatomy, personal trainer, herbalist, advocate/practitioner for sustainable living, culinary master, and artisan of many forms including woodworking, painting,  and digital art.

​In December 2018, He has earned a new title in Capoeira which is Mestrando Estagiario (Master 1st Stage)

and the First American Master teacher of the group of Capoeira Sol Nascente USA, under

Mestre Romeuson Francisco do Rego (Mestre Romeu)

Baiano's program was the first Capoeira program of the Jersey Shore since 2002.

 

Due to the devastating toll of the 2020 pandemic, our Capoeira program had to close.

Having a background in Mixed Martial Arts, Kasey  has joined forces with South Paw Gym in Neptuen NJ which he is now the main instructor of Mixed Martial Arts which includes grappling, striking and submission wrestling for kids and Muay Thai Kickboxing for teens and adults

​

Mestrando Est. Baiano, has not given up the art of Capoeira...

He is available for Workshops, Cultural presentations and Master Classes in the art.
